Liquid Nails
Liquid Nails is the leading U.S. brand of construction adhesives, caulks, and sealants, launched in 1967 by what became part of PPG Industries' architectural coatings business. PPG owned and marketed the brand for decades until it divested its entire U.S. and Canadian architectural coatings business, including Liquid Nails, Glidden, and Olympic, to private equity firm American Industrial Partners for $550 million in a deal that closed in December 2024. The carved-out business was renamed The Pittsburgh Paints Company, which continues to manufacture and market Liquid Nails today. In December 2025 the FTC sued to block a proposed $725 million acquisition of the Liquid Nails business by Henkel AG, the German maker of rival adhesive brand Loctite, arguing the deal would combine the two closest competitors in the construction adhesives aisle. In August 2026, a federal judge in the Southern District of New York ruled in the FTC's favor and blocked the merger, keeping Liquid Nails independent of Henkel.
