Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), under chairman Sir John Harvey-Jones, acquired the Glidden Coatings & Resins division from Hanson Trust plc for $580 million in 1986. The deal brought Glidden's Macco Adhesives subsidiary, and its Liquid Nails construction adhesive brand (launched 1968), into ICI's portfolio alongside Dulux and other paint lines.
