Instalimb
Instalimb is a Tokyo-based startup that manufactures 3D-printed prosthetic legs and orthotic devices through an end-to-end digital workflow combining proprietary 3D-CAD software, machine-learning-driven automated design, and dedicated 3D printers built specifically for prosthetics and orthotics fabrication. Founded in March 2017 by Yasushi Tokushima after his experience as a JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer in the Philippines, where he encountered diabetic-gangrene patients unable to afford prosthetic legs, the company built its clinic business first in the Philippines (2019) and India (2022), targeting the roughly 90 million people globally who cannot afford prosthetic or orthotic care. Its digital manufacturing model cuts equipment and unit costs to roughly one-tenth of conventional fabrication and increases output per prosthetist more than tenfold, with over 9,000 devices delivered to date and licensing partnerships including ALIMCO and BMVSS Jaipur Foot. The company has since begun licensing its manufacturing solution to prosthetics and orthotics makers globally and, as of May 2026, is developing a Japan market entry alongside group partner Alcare.
