Risto Murto has been President and CEO of Varma since 2014, having joined the company in 2006 and served as Chief Investment Officer and later Executive Vice-President, Investments. Before Varma he was Managing Director of Opstock Ltd, Finland's third-largest asset manager at the time. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Aalto University and sits on the boards of Sampo Plc (Deputy Chair), Nordea Bank, Finance Finland and the Finnish Pension Alliance TELA. In 2025 he led the government-appointed Kasvuriihi working group on Finnish economic growth, and in early 2025 he was named Helsinki Chamber of Commerce's Director of the Year.
