Dean VandenBiesen co-founded LifeGem in 2001 with his brother Russell (Rusty) VandenBiesen and brothers Greg and Mike Herro, and serves as the company's vice president of operations, overseeing the patented process that purifies and graphitizes carbon extracted from cremated remains or hair before it is grown into a diamond. A geologist by training, VandenBiesen has represented LifeGem at industry conventions such as the ICCFA expo and in national press coverage of the memorial-diamond category, and has also overseen novelty projects for the company, including a diamond created from Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning and diamonds made from pet remains.
