Axel Gómez-Ortigoza is Co-Founder and CEO of Polybion. An industrial engineer with a background in biotechnology, he first saw the potential of biofabricated materials in 2014 at a synthetic biology competition at MIT, an experience that led him and his brother Alexis to found Polybion in 2015. He leads the company's technology direction, having grown Polybion's first mycelium material prototypes in his mother's laboratory before the company pivoted to bacterial cellulose and Celium, its flagship biomaterial.
