Sequoia Capital China took a minority stake in Montreal luxury e-commerce platform SSENSE, announced June 8, 2021, valuing the company at over $5 billion CAD (~$4.1 billion USD) and marking the first outside capital SSENSE had taken in its 18-year history. Venture Partner Angelica Cheung, the former Vogue China editor-in-chief who had joined Sequoia Capital China that February, joined SSENSE's board as part of the deal. Rothschild & Co advised SSENSE; Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP served as legal advisor. The stake, made under the Sequoia Capital China name, is now held under HongShan following Sequoia's 2023-2024 three-way split.
