TurtleTree
TurtleTree, also known as TurtleTree Labs, is a Singapore based biotech company founded in 2019 by Fengru Lin and Max Rye. It began by developing cell-cultured milk before pivoting to a precision fermentation platform focused on lactoferrin, a high-value iron-binding milk protein. Its bovine-identical lactoferrin, LF+, was the world's first precision-fermented lactoferrin to reach market and the first to receive a No Questions letter from the US Food and Drug Administration, and the company also sells a consumer supplement brand called Intentional. TurtleTree has raised roughly 40 million dollars since founding, including a 30 million dollar Series A round in 2021 led by Verso Capital. The company underwent significant layoffs in the six months leading up to January 2025, shrinking to a skeleton staff, before announcing an exclusive partnership and minority investment from Novonesis and 321Catalyst Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Mitsui Chemicals, in July 2026 to scale manufacturing of its lactoferrin for early-life nutrition, supplements, and women's health markets.
